Medina expects inflation below 3% for several months

Finance Minister Fernando Medina said this Tuesday he expects inflation to fall below 3% for several months into the second half, also highlighting the expectation to reduce the weight of government debt.

Speaking at the opening session of the annual conference of the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM), at the Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon, Fernando Medina highlighted several times the improvement in the European Commission’s economic forecasts for Portugal released last week.

“Inflation will ease over the course of 2023 and now the European Commission and IMF projections are close to those of the government,” he said.

“This means that we will see inflation below 3% during this year, especially in the second half,” said Fernando Medina.

For the minister, this will be an “important evolution with regard to the stabilization of the future expectations of households, companies and other economic actors”.
