Climate: for the CEO of Macif, the price increases of the contracts must be “gradual”

Faced with the increasing risk of claims linked to climate change, Jean-Philippe Dogneton admits that insurance rates will have to rise.

“A breaking point.” In 2022, insurance covered 10.5 billion euros in France, recalled Jean-Philippe Dogneton, managing director of MACIF, the second French home insurer, on the set of BFM Business.

This unprecedented charge was taken on by French insurers “through very different perils,” he continued, before mentioning “hail and events of incredible intensity” as well as droughts. A figure that raises “the question of sustainability over time” for the MACIF leader, while “most countries do not cover these claims.”

According to forecasts by the French Insurance Federation, insurer bills could double by 2050.

“But the increases must be gradual, everyone must be aware of what we collectively want to protect,” he said.
