Electricity: the Minister of Industry assures that the “free cut” is “very unlikely”

On BFMTV, Roland Lescure said that if everyone “makes efforts” for energy sobriety, the French are unlikely to experience a “clean” power outage this winter.

“We’re not here to lecture people.” Asked by BFMTV, Roland Lescure, Delegate Minister for Industry, assured that “the frank and clean cut” of electricity is “very, very unlikely” this winter, and it will be even less so “if everyone makes an effort.”

But “the best way to avoid the worst is to be prepared, the more economical we are, the less likely load shedding will be,” added the minister.

“Neither put a policeman behind each thermostat, nor give lessons”

If the Government has been increasing the calls for energy sobriety for several weeks before the arrival of winter, Roland Lescure assured that “he was not there to give lessons, but to raise awareness”.

Earlier this Tuesday, it was the Minister of Economy who spoke on this issue. Bruno Le Maire shared his desire to set an example amid rising energy prices, saying he will now wear a turtleneck instead of a tie. He also assured that the heating will not be turned on in the ministry “until the temperature drops below 19 degrees.”

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne also said on BFMTV and RMC on Monday that the heating was not yet on at Matignon.
