Vendredi 26 mai, a passenger of an Asiana Airlines flight tried to commit suicide in an issue of secours before laquelle il était assis, alors que l’appareil, in pleine phase d’atterrissage, était à 200 mètres du floor. To prevent this type of event from happening again, the company has decided to stop selling tickets for seats located near the emergency exits of the Airbus A321-200.
In a releaseAsiana Airlines has given up the seats that can no longer be assigned to passengers “for security reasons”: seats 26A on the 174-seat A321 and 31A on the 195-seat models.
These places are on the left of the device. Those on the right side are not affected since they are reserved for flight personnel, the company specifies.
“I wanted to get out fast”
The person who opened the doors was arrested by police in Daegu, South Korea, as soon as the plane landed. About 200 passengers were on board the plane. He explained to police that he was “in a state of stress after recently losing his job.”
“He discovered that the flight was taking longer than it should have and felt like he was suffocating inside the cabin,” according to police. “He wanted to get out fast.” He faces up to 10 years in prison for violating aviation security legislation.
His gesture was filmed by passengers and the videos went around the world. You can see the wind pouring in through the open door in mid-flight, the fabric headrests and the hair of the passengers flying in all directions, while some scream.
A dozen passengers were taken to hospital with respiratory difficulties, but no serious injuries or major damage were found. An official from the Ministry of Transportation told AFP that, to the knowledge of the institution, it was the “first incident of its kind” in the history of South Korean aviation.
