He had ordered him to “shut up” and “chasing rats at night instead of talking nonsense”: Cyril Hanouna’s attacks on the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo earned his channel C8 a new fine of 300,000 euros, Arcom announced Wednesday.
This new sanction by the media regulator against C8 comes four months after a record fine of 3.5 million euros, still for the Hanouna program, “Touche pas à mon poste!” (“TPMP”).
Host “name attacks”
This record fine was imposed on the channel in early February following live insults hurled by its star presenter at LFI MP Louis Boyard in November.
The new fine, which punishes “non-compliance” by C8, also takes into account “previous sanctions imposed for previous violations of the same obligations,” Arcom stressed in a press release.
The comments in question were made in an October 5, 2022, issue of the TPMP.
“The mayoress of Paris, who was not on the show, was attacked by name by the presenter, who urged her to ‘shut up and ‘hunt rats at night instead of talking nonsense,'” Arcom recalled. .
A channel pinned multiple times
Cyril Hanouna also said that Anne Hidalgo was part of “a ‘gang of imbeciles,’ exclaiming ‘don’t piss us off’ and repeatedly repeating the expression ‘shut the fuck up,’ the regulator continued.
Arcom “considered that these comments could infringe the rights of the mayoress of Paris to respect for her honor and reputation.”
In addition, Arcom judged that “this sequence reflected a lack of knowledge” on the part of the channel “of its obligation to control its antenna.”
C8 (channel of the Canal+ group, controlled by the conservative billionaire Vincent Bolloré) has been pinned on multiple occasions by Arcom in recent years due to Cyril Hanouna’s broadcasts.
Reminder of chain obligations by Rima Abdul Malak
In March, the court took interest in a controversial ‘TPMP’ segment in which a guest put forward a conspiracy theory about an alleged drug taken as children.
At the beginning of April, a preliminary investigation was opened in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) following a report from the Paris police headquarters about the presence of people mistakenly presented as BRAV-M police officers in ‘TPMP’.
In recent months, Culture Minister Rima Abdul Malak has repeatedly recalled that Arcom could withdraw its C8 frequency in 2025 if it fails to meet its obligations. These statements sparked protests from the Canal+ group.
The lawyer and pamphleteer Juan Branco published a book against the presenter on Thursday, simply titled “Hanouna”.
