France: industrial production rebounds by 0.8% in April

Industrial production in France rebounded 0.8% in April, thanks to the reduction in strikes at refineries and increased activity in transport equipment, excluding automobiles, INSEE reported on Friday.

French industrial production rose in April, data released by INSEE on Friday shows. Production in the French industry as a whole increased by 0.8% after a fall of 1.1% in March. Economists surveyed on average expected industrial production to fall 0.3%.

In detail, production rebounded strongly in coking-refining (+23.6% compared to -45.2% in March), having decreased the intensity of the strikes compared to the previous month. Extractive industries, energy, water (+1.8%), transport material (+2.0%) and capital goods (+1.4%) also increased, but automobiles fell (-1.8%) and the agri-food industries (-0.3%).
