The gas price rises by 1.3% from October

Gas prices on the regulated market will increase by 1.3% from October, the regulator announced on Thursday, which also informs about the 31.2% discount on the transitional rates for consumers with a social tariff.

“Given the average price of the previous gas year (2022-2023), consumers in the regulated market will register an average increase of 1.3% in the final selling price from October (gas year 2023-2024) onwards,” said a statement from the Energy Agency. Services Regulatory Entity (ERSE).

The regulator points out that “taking into account the quarterly update, which took place in January 2023, consumers on the regulated market in October 2023, given the prices in force, will see an average increase of 0.6%” .

The price increase in the regulated market “is essentially justified by the increase in grid access tariffs in the gas year 2023-2024, by the fall in demand resulting in an increase in infrastructure costs per unit of energy supplied,” says ERSE.

So, according to the simulation presented by ERSE, a couple without children who are in the highest consumption class will pay 13.69 euros, which corresponds to an increase of 15 cents compared to September’s bill, while a couple with two children in the second consumption level you pay 25.78 euros, an increase of 10 cents.

“The approximately 431,000 consumers who were on the Last Resort Trader at the end of April 2023, representing about 4.1% of national consumption, are subject to these variations,” adds ERSE.

The regulator’s proposal for the social tariff implies a “discount of 31.2% on the transitional tariffs for Sales to End Customers”, ERSE announces.
