The government maintains the ISP discount at 13.1 cents for diesel and 15.3 cents for gasoline

The government decided this month to leave the petroleum products tax (ISP) discount unchanged at 13.1 cents per liter for diesel and 15.3 cents for gasoline, the Treasury Department announced on Monday.

“The government maintains for the month of June the ISP discount that was in effect the previous month, which translates into a discount of 13.1 cents per liter on diesel and 15.3 cents per liter on petrol”the executive said in a statement.

According to the ministry led by Fernando Medina, the update of the addition on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions – carbon tax – that started in May will also continue.

The rate has now been updated to around two cents on petrol and diesel.

In June, the total tax reduction will be 28 cents per liter of diesel and 30 cents per liter of petrol.

For the agricultural sector, the drop of six cents per liter of diesel remains.

“The reference price of diesel and gasoline is currently below the price verified in October 2021, which justified the initial mitigation measures at ISP level. In addition, fuel consumption in the first four months of 2023 reached a decade-high record. for road use in April, the last month of published data, a growth of 19% compared to the same period last year. In addition, fuel excise duty in Portugal is significantly below the weighted average for the euro zone: 16% in diesel and 11% in gasoline,” he emphasized.
