The minister wants a “thorough investigation”

Shrinkflation is a marketing practice of masking product inflation by reducing quantities in similar packages with an identical selling price. A legal practice whenever the mention of the weight of the food is modified, but that can mislead consumers.

The magazine broadcast Thursday night by France 2 analyzes “the little tricks of the food industry to discreetly increase its prices”, such as “changes in packaging or grammage”, but also the “endless confrontation” that gives rise to negotiations between ” certain hypermarkets” and their suppliers, specifies the production.
The National Consumer Council, a joint advisory body, brings together public authorities, representatives of approved consumer associations and professional organizations to discuss consumer-related issues.
It issues opinions aimed at “enriching the thinking of public authorities” on the economic protection of consumers or the issues of ecological and digital transition.
