The fuel distribution market is being reorganized. According the echoes, the British oil company BP will considerably reduce the number of its service stations in France. And it is Esso that should recover the bet since at least 200 of BP’s 300 points of sale should pass into its lap, which would allow the American company to double its market share, from 4 to 8%, in France.
Precisely, the Exxon Mobil subsidiary takes advantage of a new tender launched by Euro Garage, the operator of these stations whose contract with BP is coming to an end, to take over the entire network. And so it recovers highly coveted outlets, mainly near Paris and in the south-east of France.
From 550 to 800 stations
In total, Esso’s network will now have around 800 service stations in France, up from 550 today. A rise in power that comes at a time when the sector is in full transformation.
Large distribution has been gaining ground for several years thanks to very low prices. This forces specialists to adapt. Esso, for example, overhauled its model from top to bottom and automated most of its outlets. At these so-called “Esso express” stations, the group has also eliminated all complementary services to reduce costs.
