Oil: the IEA forecasts for the first time a global demand peak “before the end of the decade”

The Executive Director of the International Energy Agency talks about the advances of electric vehicles or even energy efficiency in parallel.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts global oil demand will peak “before the end of the decade,” according to an annual report released on Wednesday that for the first time evokes a peak during the period.

“The transition to a clean energy economy is accelerating, with peak global demand for oil in sight before the end of this decade as electric vehicles, fuel efficiency and other technologies advance,” said Fatih Birol, IEA executive director, in a statement.
