I was inspired by Levi Stubbs, David Ruffin, Jimmy Ruffin, Jerry Butler, Diana Ross, Dobie Gray, and Scott Walker, among many others. I tried to do justice to all of them, and to the fabulous authors of this glorious music”, he explains in a promotional video posted on YouTube.

Produced by Ron Aniello, this album takes its name from the song by Jerry Buttler Only the strong Survivereleased in 1968, which opens the Springsteen album track listing.
