Season 48’s tonight Live Saturday night will be previewed and a lot will be different. Lot of the cast members left, including Kate McKinnon and Pete Davidson, and four comedians were added to the cast. this year of SNL it will be a transitional season with eight starts and four arrivals. However, Lorne Michaels explained why this is a good thing . She described the four new cast members as “new” and in a recent interview she talked about what it was like to see them start working on the show.
The cast of season 48 will include longtime cast members such as Kenan Thompson and Colin Jost, as well as fan favorite Bowen Yang. In addition to the repertoire musicians, we will also meet new stars: Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker. Michaels was chatting with SNL students David Spade and Dana Carvey on their podcast Fly on the wall (opens in a new tab)and when asked about the new cast members, Michaels replied:
It was so fun seeing these new people, because they are exactly where you should start.
He talked about the excitement and nervousness of being on SNL, especially as this is the first time many of these comedians have worked in front of the camera. Michaels elaborated on this point by saying:
There is this exuberance and enthusiasm. It is seen, and this energy is seen. When you start with people who have never been on TV, the audience becomes part of that process and lives with them.
Getting into a show that’s been on the air for nearly 50 years has to come with a lot of pressure. I also imagine it’s super exciting to start this job and meet all the legendary actors who started their careers at Studio 8H. Starting tonight, we will see these four new cast members on their journey through the chaos of SNL.
The SNL The cast has an exciting range of the hosts kick off season 48 with them this year. the start of the season is Top Gun: Maverick star Miles Teller. He will be followed next week by Brendan Gleeson, known for his roles in Harry Potter Yes Paddington 2. Then the third week will see the first double guest of the year with Megan Thee Stallion.
Although SNL this in a transition year with its major cast changes , this lineup of conductors and Michaels’ enthusiasm for the new cast made me super excited to see what lies ahead.
