The Marvel Cinematic Universe is already gearing up for its next two “climax” films. The first of the two, Avengers: Kang dynastygot a director in Destin Daniel Cretton, which he directed Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings. And the film should be written by Ant-Man and the Vespa: Quantumania write Jeff Loveness. Little has been said about his retinue, Avengers: Secret Wars but, now, it looks like the production has taken an exciting step forward. Not only is a writer related, but they are already part of the MCU family.
Marvel Studios reportedly tapped Michael Waldron to write Avengers: Secret Warsaccording to Term . The rick and morty alum seems like the best choice considering his other credits in the MCU. Previously, Waldron was Tom Hiddleston’s lead writer and executive producer Lokithen embarked Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness reviewing this story after director Scott Derrickson’s departure. Marvel did not comment on the move and, of course, the plot details in the Avengers movies are kept secret.
Michael Waldron isn’t just a solid pick for the project simply because he’s handled Marvel’s fare previously. It’s the kind of MCU productions he’s been in that makes it a logical addition to this latest production. With LokiWaldron opened the door to a whole new side of the cinematic universe by developing the rules of time travel and alternate timelines. He also cleverly introduced a variation of Kang in Jonathan Majors’ The One That Remains during the show’s first season finale.
And of course the scribe also blew up the multiverse through his work on the strange doctor continuation. One might think that there will be many multiverse events secret warsthen him heels the creator may be the one who will handle the madness that is sure to follow.
Avengers: Secret Wars was announced last July at San Diego Comic-Con as part of Phase 6 of the MCU and the film has the potential to be a cinematic event that rivals End of the game. In the comics, the massive crossover limited series of the same name, which has aired since 1984, has seen the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe transported, against their will, to a place called Battleworld. The Beyonder, the cosmic entity that summoned them, engages the two groups in battle.
However, the prospect of such a story being adapted for the big screen is exciting, based on the story of Marvel Studios, Michael Waldron’s script is unlikely to be a direct adaptation. However, I am thrilled to see what Waldron will bring to the process and now more than ever I am curious to see how he is selected to direct the film.
Avengers: Secret Wars will be released in theaters on November 7, 2025. While you wait, read more Marvel movies coming up and check out Michael Waldron’s work on Loki Yes Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness stream them with a Disney + subscription.
