Ana de Armas has been acting for some time now, but it could be argued that her role in Rian Johnson’s 2019 crime thriller, knives out, really made it a household name. Even as part of Johnson’s impressive cast (which included veteran actors such as Christopher Plummer, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Michael Shannon), de Armas still shone. However, it turns out that the actress almost turned down the project and she explains why her.
In a recent interview with today’s scheduleAna de Armas said she was initially not very keen on the idea knives out when asked to audition. This was due to a key element involving his character. However, the actress eventually changed her tone, as she explained:
I was shooting another movie. And the character description was “pretty Latin babysitter” something like that. And I had a scene. I was like, ‘I’ve heard this before.’ A nurse? No. And I kept saying, “No, no, no.” Really because I was filming something. Until they say, “Okay, we’ll send you the script.” And as soon as I read it, I thought, “Oh my God, I have to send that tape now.” I can’t miss this part.
If this was the only information Ana de Armas had about the film and her character in the beginning, I can perfectly understand why she skipped the project. The description seems rather conventional and, furthermore, Latin stars have historically been limited to roles such as nurses and / or housewives in many cases. However, I think we should all be happy that she got a chance to read the script before making her final decision of hers. The film was a lot of fun and it wouldn’t have been the same without Marta Cabrera, an empathic but initially cautious De Armas. De Armas was absolutely perfect in the role of her and the film is better for having her portrayal of her.
Since starring in the critically acclaimed mystery film, the star has worked on many other fantastic projects such as, there is no time to die Yes the gray manthe last of which allowed him to meet knives out co-star Chris Evans. More recently, the 34-year-old actress transformed into Marilyn Monroe for Andrew Dominik’s controversial film. Blond. The film has received lackluster reviews since its debut, but the performance of the lead role as Monroe was praised. And it could be in first place for the Oscar contest.
Anna d’Armi knives out it was a surprise success and two sequels were eventually put in development. The first of these follow-ups is titled Glass onion: a mystery at loggerheads, and the film has already made the rounds of the film festival circuit. Early reviews for the Netflix-produced sequel have been overwhelmingly positive, so I personally can’t wait to see it. However, Daniel Craig returns with a new star-studded cast that includes the likes of Edward Norton, Kate Hudson and Kathryn Hahn, so fans certainly won’t be disappointed. While de Armas won’t be returning as Marta, we can take comfort in the fact that she was able to land her role in the OG movie and left a significant impression.
You can see Ana de Armas’s performance in Blond stream the movie using a Netflix subscription. Furthermore, Glass onion: a mystery at loggerheads It will arrive on the platform in December, so fans of the original have a lot to look forward to.
