A week after his serious motorcycle accident, Mathieu Kassovitz once again takes stock of his state of health. In a video posted on Instagram, filmed from his hospital bed, the 56-year-old actor first expressed his support for Moroccans, victims of Saturday’s deadly earthquake, before returning to the circumstances of his accident, which occurred on September 3. , during a driving improvement course on a circuit in Essonne.
“I am a motorcycle enthusiast […] They asked me to do a circuit, wearing a wetsuit. My daughter is a motorcycle enthusiast, so I brought her with my son. We had a great riding session and at the end of the day, my friend Philippe Monneret, who runs this motorcycle school, wanted to do a baptism with my daughter,” explains the actor on Instagram.
“He asked me to go in front but in my head I said: ‘if he tells me to go in front, since he is very fast, I have to chase him’. So I wanted to get on the ground and took a curve that was too wide. I was afraid of fell, I put the bike back upright and hit the safety rail directly,” explains Mathieu Kassovitz.
“I think I’ll be able to walk again in six months.”
In his video, the actor then reveals the state of his injuries after the operation. “I have had my femur replaced by a titanium rod,” he explains before showing his “completely pulverized” ankle, held in place by several titanium pins.
“Their technical term when they received me was ‘tuna crumb.’ When the doctor saw me he was sure that he was going to amputate me. But they did a very good job, I think I will walk again in six months,” says Mathieu Kassovitz.
The actor also took advantage of this video to thank the nursing staff at the Kremlin-Bicêtre hospital who treated him as well as all his fans for the messages of support he has received since his accident.
Although Mathieu Kassovitz’s vital prognosis was never in danger, in recent days he was temporarily placed in an artificial coma. At the same time, the Évry prosecutor’s office opened an investigation to “search for the causes of the injuries” and will rely in particular on the hearing of witnesses, including the driving instructor.
