Since the death of Serge Gainsbourg on March 2, 1991, Charlotte Gainsbourg has wanted to convert 5 bis rue de Verneuil into a museum. Postponed for several years, the project will finally see the light of day on September 20 with the opening to the public of this already legendary place, whose tickets are already sold out until December.
“In the first ten years, when I was more sure about the project, it was very complicated to carry it out. And then I came back because it was a little bit of what was left of it, so I kept it like a treasure,” he declared. to the AFP Charlotte Gainsbourg in 2021, the year of the 30th anniversary of her father’s disappearance.
“But when I went to New York – now I’m back in Paris – I took some distance and understood that it had to be done,” he added.
In addition to the legendary Gainsbourg house, fans can also visit a museum dedicated to the artist located at 14 rue de Verneuil. As Charlotte Gainsbourg indicated to BFMTV in April, this place “will trace my father’s life through his works and the collection of his emblematic pieces” and will offer “a bookstore-boutique and the Gainsbarre, cafeteria and piano bar.” .
