A counting error during the Miss New Caledonia final led to the designation of a winner who should not have been and will be removed, the local organizing committee of the beauty pageant learned Wednesday.
Mathilda Lelong, 25, crowned Miss New Caledonia last Saturday during a gala evening, will not represent the South Pacific territory during the Miss France 2024 election, scheduled in Dijon on December 16.
Sacred Emma Grousset
The president of the Miss New Caledonia committee, Stella Le Van Hao, acknowledged to AFP “a regrettable counting error” during the final that pitted four candidates against each other in the second part of the evening, confirming the information from New Caledonia 1st. The first round, which took place that same night, is not contested.
The title, therefore, goes to another young woman, Emma Grousset, 21 years old, who came in fourth position during the count.
