Spoilers ahead for episode 3 of Law and order: SVU Season 24, called “Mirror Effect”.
Slow construction for Law and order: SVU say goodbye to Amanda Rollin continued with “Mirror Effect” as the detective continued to struggle with the consequences of being shot at the crossover in three parts the season has started. While not long ago only those closest to him could see that something was wrong, his trauma has impacted his career and his family life in a major way this week. It is difficult to see knowing that the The end of the game is the departure of Rollins. but I must say – Kelli Giddish it is absolutely overwhelming.
Her story in “Mirror Effect” began with a therapy session which confirmed that she was not yet very religious about scheduling her appointments with her therapist, who warned her that if she continued to be absent, she would have to. denouncing her, and this would have done so means removing her from active duty. SVU Characters not accepting NYPD-imposed therapy are pretty much a tradition on the show at this point, but Rollins clearly needs to open up more than he has so far.
He also started to slip a bit during Case of the Week, which wasn’t helped by the fact that his date with carisi ended with the discovery of a victim who needed help. Of course, Stabler pretty much made a career out of making questionable decisions when his personal life weighed heavily on his job, so it seemed like Rollins might be fine … until Jesse Yes billy he screamed in the middle of the night, thinking there was a monster in his closet.
As Carisi rushed inside to check on the girls, Rollins went to get his gun before breaking in and checking the closet for a panicked intruder. The girls were terrified and confused, and this was a wake-up call for Rollins, who sent them to live with her mother. She didn’t want to be alone and stayed with him in Carisi’s office while he prepared for the trial, not caring that she had nothing to do. Carisi was visibly worried, e benson he clearly wants to help too, but there is no easy way out.
The imminent departure of Kelli Giddish means that Rollins will not recover and will be back in action with the unit, as has happened Chicago police finished saying goodbye Jesse Lee Sofferthis is Jay Halstead – the it can’t be a happy ending at all for the fans, because it will go away, whatever happens.
What I can be happy with is that Kelli Giddish gets some meaty material in this story arc and throws it out of the park. All of the scenes of him in the episode really showed off his acting skills and Rollins’ detachment as he tried to get to the elevator surrounded by a whistling crowd was an amazing sequence. Not every star can tell that a character is constantly on the verge of breaking down as he continues to do his job. If there’s a silver lining to Rollins’ loss, it’s seeing Giddish deal with this story before he leaves.
Rollins’ self-awareness that something is wrong, coupled with his advancement at work, makes this arc intriguing to watch and gives me hope that SVUHer solution is simply to retire from active duty to enjoy a more secure career that allows her to be sure of returning home to her daughters. And ideally, SVU he will find a way to write it without ruining Rollisi’s report, when it was going so well to close season 23 and so far in season 24.
It’s still unclear when Rollins’ latest episode will air, so stay tuned. new episodes of Law and order: SVU airs on Thursdays at 9pm peacock subscription .
