King Charles III, who seeks to consolidate his international image a year after his accession to the throne, will try to leave his political mark this Thursday during a speech before French parliamentarians, on the second day of a state visit in Paris during which he advocated for strengthening Franco-British ties.
On Wednesday evening, Charles III and Emmanuel Macron sent a message of Franco-British “friendship” focused on “the future” during a sumptuous dinner at the Palace of Versailles, the highlight of the king’s visit to France.
This three-day visit to France, the first since the monarch’s coronation, “is a sign of friendship and trust”, seen “as a tribute to our past and as a guarantee of the future”, said the French president when opening his food.
Paris and Saint Denis
While the sovereign will give a speech in the morning at the Luxembourg Palace, Queen Camilla will accompany Brigitte Macron to the National Library of France to inaugurate the Franco-British literary prize.
Next, Charles III and his wife are expected to visit at noon in Saint-Denis the “rugby village” set up during the World Cup in front of the Saint-Denis town hall. “They will exchange with young people from the city about sports activities,” explain our colleagues from Parisian.
“Next, the royal couple will enter the Basilica of Saint-Denis, which houses the tombs of numerous Frankish and French sovereigns,” indicates the regional newspaper.
Charles III and Camilla will return to Paris in the afternoon. They will visit the restoration site of the Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral, before heading to the National Museum of Natural History.
Charles III and Emmanuel Macron will close a sequence on climate and biodiversity at the Natural History Museum in the presence of economic actors.
On Friday, the king will travel to Bordeaux to meet with first responders who fought the region’s fires in the summer of 2022 and with the communities affected by these fires. He will visit the Experimental forest de Floirac, an urban forest designed to observe the resilience of urban forests in the face of climate change.
