“A speech on fraternity”: Gad Elmaleh recalls his intervention before the Pope’s mass

Comedian Gad Elmaleh will be at the Vélodrome in Marseille with the Pope on Saturday. He tells us about the text that he will deliver on this occasion, “a poetic speech about the Mediterranean, brotherhood.”

A “concrete moment” of “coexistence”, this is what Gad Elmaleh prepares to experience. The comedian will be at the Vélodrome stadium on Saturday, with Pope Francis, during the papal mass.

“We are scheduled to make a poetic speech about the Mediterranean, about brotherhood,” explains Gad Elmaleh at the BFMTV microphone. He will be alongside the actor Medhi Djaadi and the composer Grégoire, who will accompany him on the piano.

“It is a great symbol that Medhi Djaadi, Grégoire and I spoke that day,” he rejoices.

“Now is not the time to debate”

“Whatever our religious conviction, we can only respect brotherhood, love between people, communities. It is very good to talk about coexistence, but here there is a specific moment.”

“Whether you are Catholic, non-Catholic, non-practicing, practicing, at any given moment there is a communion, a union of brothers and sisters in humanity, I just want that. This is not the time for debates,” he adds.

Gad Elmaleh co-produced Bernadette de Lourdes, the musical show, composed by Grégoire. The show took place on Thursday in Paris and had five performances.

The show company had the opportunity to meet the Pope and sing him one of the songs from the show.

“He had the show privately, in the Vatican,” says Gad Elmaleh. “When the Pope heard the song, he closed his eyes and at the end he said ‘it’s beautiful’, we felt proud.”
