If Romain Colucci observed for several years the commitment of his father and then his mother, Véronique Kantor, who died in 2018, in Restos du coeur, he decided to get “officially” involved in the association “a little over five years ago. .” At 51 years old, he is now administrator of Restos du coeur.

“It was not about practicing the empty chairs policy. […] In the time of Covid I told myself that it must be complicated for volunteers. I started traveling through France, I crossed empty roads and I understood that some deserved a medal that they will never have,” explains Romain Colucci to Le Parisien.

“I also saw that they were moved that we came to see them and I said to myself: If I can be useful… I don’t know a perfect world, but the Restos du coeur is the closest thing,” he continues.

Twenty times more meals distributed

In early September, Patrick Douret, president of Restos du Cœur, sounded the alarm by announcing that Restos du coeur would have to limit its number of beneficiaries due to financial difficulties. A decline particularly related to the number of meals distributed each year by the association, which has “exploded.”

“About 170 million meals should be distributed in 2023, compared to 140 million in 2022 and 8.5 million, or twenty times less, in 1985-1986. We can no longer sweep the dust under the rug,” says Romain Colucci .

Since then, several personalities such as Isabelle Nanty, Julien Clerc and Patrick Bruel have mobilized to ask for donations. The government also promised aid of 15 million euros for Restos du coeur, while Bernard Arnault’s family announced a donation to the association of 10 million euros.
