Kanye West pinned for series of ‘anti-Jewish’ social media posts

An association for the fight against anti-Semitism points to recent statements by the rapper. For his part, Instagram and Twitter deleted some of his messages.

Kanye West in the sights of an association for the fight against anti-Semitism. The American rapper, accustomed to controversial speeches, is this time singled out for comments described as “anti-Jewish” by the American Jewish Committee, in a press release published on Friday.

“This week, Kanye West (indulged) in tirades loaded with racist and anti-Semitic subtexts” on television, denounces the AJC, “(and) shared anti-Jewish (messages) with his 18 million followers on Instagram.”

This organization created in 1906 denounces an interview granted by Kanye West to Fox News during the week, as well as a message from the rapper spread on Instagram on Friday. Since then, the interpreter of tied 2 spoke about Jews again on Twitter overnight from Saturday to Sunday. All of these posts quickly disappeared from social media.

recurring theme

It was on Thursday that the American channel Fox News broadcast a long interview granted by the rapper to the journalist Tucker Carlson. As NBC News reports, Kanye West spoke about the work of Jared Kushner, an adviser (and son-in-law) to Donald Trump during his tenure as President of the United States. And he accused Ivanka Trump’s husband, himself a Jew, of having negotiated treaties with Israel just to enrich himself: “Kanye West used anti-Semitic stereotypes, such as greed and control,” accuses the ‘AJC about this interview.

Two days after this televised step, several American media broadcast the disappearance of several Kanye West Instagram posts. The rapper had posted text messages visibly addressed to P. Diddy on Friday: “I will use you as an example to show the Jews who told you to call me that no one can threaten me or influence me,” it could read there, according to Business Insider. A spokesperson for Meta, the company run by Mark Zuckerberg that owns Whatsapp, Facebook and Instagram, confirmed to entertainment weekly removing certain posts from Kanye West’s page and placing restrictions on his account, without specifying which posts they were.

Overcoming on Twitter

Deprived of Instagram, the rapper returned to Twitter on Saturday night after almost two years of absence. “Look at this Mark,” he captioned a photo of Mark Zuckerberg and himself side by side, “how can you get me off Instagram?” He then split another, incoherent tweet, quickly deleted by Twitter:

“I’m a little tired tonight, but when I wake up I’m playing ‘death with 3’ against THE JEWS,” he wrote. “The funny thing is that I can’t be anti-Semitic because black people are actually Jews.” And to continue addressing a “you”, without specifying who it is: “You played with me and tried to unseat anyone who opposed your project.”

“Death Con 3”, according to Complex, undoubtedly refers to “Defcon”, a designation that defines the level of alertness of the US military in the face of a risk of conflict, which ranges from 1 to 5.

Twitter intervenes

This tweet lasted no more than an hour, according to the hollywood reporter. In fact, instead of the message now appears the mention “This tweet has violated Twitter’s rules.” A message from the rapper, posted shortly after, is still online. Again, he mentions a group, without explaining who he is referring to: “In your opinion, who created cancel culture?”

“Kanye West must find a way to argue without resorting to anti-Semitism,” denounces the AJC. According to the association, these publications by the rapper contribute to the “stereotype according to which Jews are interested in money or that they control the finances of the world (…) Kanye West must understand that words count.”

The 45-year-old rapper, who revealed that he had been diagnosed with a “mental disorder” in 2016, has been making controversial speeches and megalomaniac ravings for a few years. After having openly supported Donald Trump, at a time when almost all of the American entertainment world embraces progressive convictions, he ran for president in 2020. During his campaign, he declared himself against abortion and vaccination. Last year he made headlines again by inviting Marilyn Manson and rapper DaBaby to the stage, respectively accused of sexual violence and homophobia and serophobia.
