Although the next season of NCIS: Los Angeles will focus a little on the highly anticipated wedding of Callen and Anna, there will still be a lot of attention on Deek and Kensi. Last season, after a long journey to become parents, the couple welcomed teenager Rosa and they all officially became family. But it all passed without an important person in the couple’s life, Hetty. With this, Daniela Ruah explains how the absence of the NCIS Lair Mother affected the lives of the two.
ON NCIS: Los AngelesIn recent seasons, Linda Hunt’s Hetty has been largely absent, aside from a solid appearance here and there, both for the season finale and for the premiere. Showrunner R. Scott Gemmill revealed that the producers were looking to get Hetty back for Callanna’s wedding, which would be wonderful to watch. But even if she returns for this special event, one can’t help but think that the moment Deek and Kensi became parents will be missed anyway.
Daniela Ruah told TV Insider that the character’s absenteeism really forced her and Eric Christian Olsen’s characters to grow up a bit. As she explained:
But it’s also interesting to explore, and I think we all face it at some point in our lives: Hetty was everyone’s father, right? Taking care of everyone, being the person they go to to know what to do next. We all have someone like that in our lives until we no longer have any: a father, whether he gets old or dies or whatever. At some point, we have to be independent and make our own decisions based on what Hetty would do or say, but I’m not here to give you this answer. And so seeing these characters making decisions for themselves after learning so much about their lives is interesting to watch.
Daniela Ruah also said that Hetty hadn’t met Rosa yet and didn’t even want to be a reference as the two were looking to adopt a child. Parenting was a very long one for Deek and Kensi, they encountered a number of obstacles while trying to adopt and, before that, conceive. While they should definitely be good parents, I’m still curious to see how they continue to make decisions without their beloved mentor.
On another note, if Linda Hunt returned for Callen and Anna’s wedding, what would that reunion be like? It’s probably moving, because it’s been a long time since the team last saw her. We’ll also likely see her meet Rosa, so fans will want to keep their handkerchiefs close at hand.
Meanwhile, season 14 of NCIS: Los Angeles It will also contain a novelty for the franchise when there is a trio NCIS crossover between the top series, THEYes Hawaii. The event will take place in January 2023, so even if there are still a few months to go, it is good to know that THE will finally participate in a crossover with its twin programs. It’s probably a long chance, but I’d love to see Hetty attend such an event if she were to go back and meet Deek, Kensi and their colleagues.
