“It’s not just about sitting down with an idea for a song”: American Nora Felder talks to AFP about her role as music coordinator for the hit series Strange thingsspringboard for an old Kate Bush piece to return to the top of the charts.

The Emmy Award, a prestigious American award received this year for his work on Strange things, now allows you to speak in front of a larger audience during the conferences you conduct. As she will do this week at the Parisian music festival MaMA (which had already invited her before she was in the spotlight).
“People think that it is enough to arrive with a beautiful song ‘et voilà, c’est ça!’”, the American laughs about her activity, with this last expression launched in French.
“Actually, we coordinate all the aspects around the music of a project, be it the creative part, the choice of music, but also the definition of budgets, the negotiation of rights, determining if it is better to create a soundtrack and involve the composer and musicians”, details who has also worked for the series Californication Y Ray Donovan.
“This song ticks all the boxes”
Raised in Washington, the 50-year-old has a strong background in the music industry. In particular, she had worked in New York, first as a programmer in a club, before being discovered and recruited by producer Phil Ramone for recordings by Paul Simon, Sinead O’Connor, Cyndi Lauper or Iggy Pop.
The one who has now set up her company in Los Angeles knew that Kate Bush was “very selective” in the use of her repertoire. “I took a long time to communicate with her representatives, lay out what that meant for the story, the characters.”
“When we got the green light, it was a huge relief, because this song ticks all the boxes for this installment in the series.”
At the time of the discussions, the music coordinator was unaware that Kate Bush was a fan of the series.

“This song sticks to the character of Eddie, which everyone loves: some reject metal like someone who refuses to open a book because of its cover, but thanks to the character of Eddie, the viewers opened the book and liked this song title. Metallica”, he dissects. Nora Felders.
