Chicago police was deeply shaken by the departure of Jesse Lee Soffer as Jay Halstead, who has been at the heart of the series since the beginning. Season 10 moves forward with new cases and stories that showrunner Gwen Sigan says will include “many” two new characters. Fans have already met one of them, while the other is yet to debut.
Showrunner Gwen Sigan spoke to Gossipify about season 10 of Chicago policeincluding the savior theme for the new batch of episodes. She said some recurring characters are coming, so she debated whether that means the show will be serialized more in the future. She shared:
It’s probably going to be very similar to last season we had Anna, and her story was actually serialized, and I’d say probably six episodes. We will be doing something very similar this season. We have great freelancers and great cases that we solve. then we will have some general cases that span more than one episode. You will meet Chef O’Neal, played by Michael Gaston. He will return a little in the first half of the season, as well as his son, played by Jefferson White. We are very happy to have them both, and both will be recurring in the top nine.
Despite PS he used the first two episodes of autumn to emotionally set the stage because Halstead would decide to leave the Intelligence Unit (and Chicago) in episode 3 of season 10 has yet to present a story like Anna’s last season. The showrunner left no details on the story arc that will bring the son of chief O’Neal (played by yellow stone jefferson white ), but Michael Gaston has already appeared in a few key episodes. Chief O’Neal is the first high-profile recurring character to hold an intelligence authority position since Samantha Miller, played by Nicole Ari Parker in seasons 8 and 9.
Gwen Sigan’s mention of Michael Gaston and Jefferson White recurring in the first nine episodes of season 10 suggests that fans won’t have to wait much longer to meet Chief O’Neal’s son, as Halstead is no longer in the episode. 3. The ninth episode of the season is usually also the mid-season finale for Chicago police When I pointed out to the showrunner that viewers have seen many kinds of dynamics between the Intelligence Unit and their bosses over the years, he continued:
Yes, it’s a new version. I mean, it’s been a long time. We have Chief O’Neal as the new leader of organized crime, and he goes in and we see that he really likes Voight. He meets Voight and has Voight’s back, a dynamic we haven’t seen in a long time. Sure, he’ll transform and grow the relationship, but it’s definitely a fun starting point.
Although Samantha Miller supported Voight to some extent, she also tended to follow the strait and narrow path more than he did, even though she got out of the way when it came to her personal life by getting involved in business. Chief O’Neal is a very different man from what we’ve seen of him so far, and it’s clear others are coming after accepting Halstead’s resignation. (Not that Halstead gave him much choice with his own decision to return to the army !)
However Chicago police incorporating these two new characters into the rest of the first nine episodes, it is clear that the series continues after saying goodbye to the character of Jesse Lee Soffer.
