star Trek Actress Kate Mulgrew plays her role as a hologram and the real Janeway in the animated series prodigy, but fans want more. Franchise boss Alex Kurtzman has made encouraging comments about the character’s return to live-action. in addition to what it does in animation .
Alex Kurtzman was on the panel at New York Comic-Con for star Trekand was requested by a fan during the prodigy segment on when Kate Mulgrew’s Janeway will return in live-action (via trekmovie.com ). Kurtzman, who tends to be enigmatic when it comes to what-if scenarios in the star Trek franchise, gave a surprisingly straightforward answer that there was something planned for Mulgrew to reprise his role:
This is what I am going to say. Things have been discussed. That’s all I’m going to say. But nothing would make me happier than bringing Janeway back. I think it would be an amazing, amazing thing to do. Could there be an idea at play, who knows? But I wish it would happen.
It would be cruel of Alex Kurtzman to joke about Kate Mulgrew’s return as Kathryn Janeway if there wasn’t something serious on the table, so it seems like good news. That said, it’s not really clear what that idea might be, and if it was something fans would consider worthy of what the actress deserves for a Janeway return.
Although Alex Kurtzman was scarce upon Janeway’s return, he offered equally encouraging news. Kurtzman noted that whatever idea is in the works for Kate Mulgrew to appear live, it will happen as soon as possible:
Yes of course. Let’s not think ten years ahead. I would like to bring her back sooner rather than later. Yup.
There are many ways star Trek could reintroduce Kathryn Janeway in live action. Star Trek: Prodigyobviously, she revealed the real Janeway without holograms at the end of her first batch of episodes and could be used to lay the groundwork for her future live-action story (although the the showrunners deny that they do Traveler things exclusively ). Also, with Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Picard and now a Starfleet officer in charge, he has every reason to team up with his former captain Janeway and face a threat in a possible post-picard divided.
It’s also worth considering, especially with all the problems Paramount has stellar travel 4 go through the corridors – that there are fans waiting for a Traveler movie . Kate Mulgrew made a brief appearance as Janeway in Star Trek: The Nemesis but he never got the chance to direct his own film. With her and her co-stars Jeri Ryan and Robert Beltran currently working on the franchise, now may be the time. The sky is the limit here for what can be done, so let’s hope Alex Kurtzman and other producers consider all options!
