Shaka Ponk will tour and farewell album, before dedicating himself to ecology

The French group announces that their next tour and their next album in 2023 will be their last.

Shaka Ponk is about to say goodbye. After 20 years of existence, the French rock group announced its separation on Tuesday, as well as one last tour and one last album. A decision made for the sake of preserving the environment, as explained by the formation in a press release.

“Shaka Ponk was an unusual artistic interlude in the midst of a seriously dysfunctional society, based on consumption, the exploitation of the planet’s resources without ever feeding it in return,” it can be read there.

The group, led by the singing duo Frah and Samaha Sam, explains that their tours are energy-consuming, polluting, and that they want to come to terms with themselves.

“Live and act for the living”

Shaka Ponk has also published a video in which they appear frozen on a museum platform, as if dissected. A sign reads “Shaka Ponk, 2004-2024, species extinction.” Below will be the dates of their last tour, the Final Fucked Up Tour, which will take them throughout France starting on October 12, 2023 and ending in Grenoble five months later, on March 29, 2024. Places will be established. . on sale on its official website this Thursday at noon. The release date of his latest album has not yet been communicated.

Shaka Ponk has often expressed his ecological commitment. In 2019 they had exposed on BFMTV all the small gestures that she had taken on tour to reduce her impact on the environment.

They had also launched The Freaks collective, which brought together some forty personalities committed to revising their habits to limit their carbon footprint. And it is along this path that they now want to continue their journey, as they explain in their press release:

“Each ending calling for a new beginning, we want to fully invest ourselves in the development of projects like The Freaks where we feel in our place, useful and in tune with the challenges of our time: living and acting to live.”
