Miss France 2022 will not represent France internationally. On Tuesday, the Miss France society announced that Diane Leyre would not participate in the Miss Universe and Miss World pageants. They will be, respectively, the first finalist of her Floriane Bascou and Clémence Botino -Miss France 2020- who will replace her.
“Unfortunately, I will not be able to participate in the Miss Universe contest due to lack of time and preparation a few weeks before my presentation of the Miss France title, next December,” Diane Leyre declared in this press release. “I don’t like to do things by halves when it comes to representing France (…)”.
“A lot of people supported me”
Miss Universe 2022 will take place on January 14, 2023 in New Orleans, Louisiana. One month after the next Miss France election, on December 17, during which Diane Leyre will pass the torch. Wednesday in the tomorrow without filterOn Virgin Radio’s morning show, which she co-hosts with Guillaume Genton, the beauty queen provided some details about her absence from international competitions… and she didn’t hide her disappointment:
“We had the (Miss Universe) appointment a short time ago (…) and it is true that in view of my Miss France and radio activities I have very little time to prepare and I go halfway there. For me, that was not possible.”
“There was a bit of excitement when the press release came out,” he adds. “Miss Universe has always been a dream, I’ve been talking about it ever since I became Miss Île-de-France. I would have really liked to be able to represent France, go there and give it my all. Especially since a lot of people supported me. … Unfortunately, I couldn’t.”
Camille Cerf denounces “blackmail in competitions”
Guillaume Genton then asked her about an Instagram story posted by Camille Cerf earlier in the day on Tuesday. Miss France 2015 evoked in more direct terms the absence of Diane Leyre in future international competitions:
“The other reason, in my opinion, is that the agency that manages us after our reign does a kind of blackmail in the international competitions every year to the Misses… in mode ‘We favor the girls in exclusive contract in the agency for international’ competitions.’ Which, in my opinion, is very, very limited. But hey, business is business.”
To which Diane Leyre reacts: “The Miss Universe license is no longer in Miss France, it is from another agency that takes care of us. And they are the ones who manage the sending of Miss France internationally. (…) They are the ones who decide who they send, we had a discussion together and I wasn’t ready to go.” She explains that soon she will be “no longer exclusively” with this agency. And she concludes: “I’m super sad, it really was a dream go there”.
