The next chapter of Supernatural The legacy is finally underway, thanks to the recent release of the canon of the Winchesters. Narrated by Jensen Ackles’ Dean Winchester, the show features the origin story of Dean and Sam’s parents: John and Mary. when the show was originally announced, things looked a bit rocky as Jared Padalecki shared his disappointment at not knowing the show was in the works. Fortunately, however, Padalecki and Ackles quickly got things right, much to the delight of the fans. Now, Ackles talks about the support he received from Padalecki while creating the spin-off series.
Since Jared Padalecki is a producer of Walker and now it has the same title in the prequel series, Walker: Independence, Apparently Jensen Ackles has turned to him for advice and notes on how he’s progressing with the Winchesters. And as the actor explained to Boucleur, that led to them having very different conversations than they once had:
Jared and I are still very close. We talk a little more, and I went to him and asked him questions, mostly [about] behind the scenes and the commercial aspects of it. Not necessarily creative, but “How do you manage study notes?” and “How are these calls going?” and “What do you do when you are limited by this particular part of the budget?” These are things that we normally never need to talk about, but now we are talking [about]. We find ourselves having these conversations. “What do you do to have three weeks of prevention?” This kind of thing.
It is good to know that you are closer than ever and that you can help each other in times of need. Even though the stars (who have worked together for 15 years) are now doing new things, the fact that they can still have those conversations speaks volumes about their relationship. And as Jensen Ackles later said, he really likes his speeches:
It opened up another part of our life as well [the ability] you discuss things, that when you are with someone as much as I have been with him, you think[‘ve] He covered almost all topics. We now have a whole new set of topics to chat, talk and spit on.
Jensen Ackles has already directed for television (and even did an episode of Walker), so it’s no stranger to working behind the camera. However, working as a producer is a bit different. There is a lot of logistics to oversee during production, and it’s easy to imagine that something like this could be overwhelming for someone just starting out. So it’s not hard to imagine Ackles’ talks with Jared Padalecki were valuable to him.
Actor Dean Winchester is heavily involved in the making of the Winchesters, according to lead actress Meg Donnelly. He even gave pep talks to her and Drake Rodger after they were cast for the lead roles. As a fan, it’s nice to know that the Supernatural alum is working hard to make this new show something special.
Of course, the series is still in its infancy and still has a long way to go before it can truly establish itself as a classic for the small screen like its predecessor. But as long as Jensen Ackles stays engaged and occasionally gets advice from Jared Padalecki, I’m sure things will be fine.
