Gwen Stefani Yes Blake Shelton gone face to face enough already in season 22 of The voice, but one battle in particular on night 2 of the second round of the competition really tested the strength of their relationship. Surprisingly it was Carson Daly – who celebrated the couple’s wedding in 2021 – who seemed to be shaking the plate, after the country star performed a brutal theft of his wife’s equipment. The presenter said he was testing their relationship. So have they passed?
It all started when Gwen Stefani put the artists on Jay Allen Yes Face of Brindisi against each other in the battle round of NBC competition. Coincidentally, or maybe not, there were singers that only she and Blake Shelton had been looking for in blind auditions. After her duet with Stevie Nicks and Don Henley’s 1981 hit “Leather and Lace”, the No Doubt singer chose Brindisi as the winner. However, she attempted to use her rescue to protect Allen as well.
It almost worked, until Blake Shelton pushed the button to steal Jay Allen, putting the decision as to which team would continue in the competitor’s hands. Eventually, she decides to switch to Team Blake, forcing Gwen Stefani to run to her husband and pretend to strangle him. It was then that Carson Daly intervened, “innocently” fulfilling his duties as a host with this exchange:
- Carson: “Gwen, are you mad at him?”
- Gwen: “I’m shaking! Yup ! I’m so angry.”
- Carson: “Will that anger come home when you get home?”
- Blake: “Enough! What are you doing now, Carson? Can I say something? Before divorcing me.
- Carson: “You did it to yourself.”
The conversation continued behind the scenes as Gwen Stefani was “mortified,” she said, for being dumped by Jay Allen on TV. She also joked that she would stay inside Camille Capellihome that night. While the four coaches gave their opinion on the situation, specifically who should be blamed, legend of Giovanni pointed to an unlikely enemy, saying:
I blame Carson, though, because the way he set it up looked like he was trying to sabotage them. The man celebrated your wedding and now he’s trying to get your divorce.
What about you, Carson Daly? The man who not only pronounced the cute couple husband and wife, but they raised their big day suggesting that they write their grades ? and immediately after their first birthday ! But the host provided an explanation for his actions. Daly told the coaches:
I needed to see to make sure the gasket was solid. Forks. You passed the test.
They passed the Carson Daly test! It’s not often that the host causes trouble and I completely blame Blake Shelton for capturing him after 22 seasons. Their longtime friendship will surely be missed by fans when the lead singer of “Come Back as a Country Boy”. within walking distance of The voice after season 23.
