Like the Atwater of the Chicago PD, he’s a different kind of mentor than Halstead for Torres

Chicago police made some big changes in the first few weeks of season 10, bringing Agent Torres full-time, saying goodbye Detective Halstead , later showing Torres in an episode that revealed more about his past and set him on a new path for his future. Benjamin Levy Aguilar, who discussed his character’s “transformation” in his big episode, spoke to Gossipify about how Atwater confronts Halstead as Torres’ mentor.

Halstead was Torres’ first mentor in the Intelligence Unit after collaborating on Benjamin Levy Aguilar’s appearance in season 9, and Jesse Lee Soffer’s character brought Torres back into the fold in season 10. His sudden departure meant that Torres lost Halstead as a driving force , but LaRoyce Hawkins’ Atwater wasted no time replacing the inexperienced cop. Asked about the confrontation between the two intelligence veterans, Aguilar shared:

First of all, they are two equally different and beautiful actors, and in the same way in the characters. Halstead was so firm. It was a lot, that’s what it is, and ‘I’m just trying to trust you, because I already trust you. I trust your instincts and I trust who you are. So we are on the same wavelength. There is this respect, because he has seen something beyond.

Halstead wasn’t easy for Torres when they first teamed up, but as Benjamin Levy Aguilar said, he was a very stable character when it came to working with the inexperienced cop. (Halstead wasn’t quite stable in his storyline, leading to his departure in season 10, whether it makes sense or not !) If it wasn’t for Halstead, Torres wouldn’t have returned to Intelligence and the episode aired on October 12 (which you can re-stream with a peacock subscription ) has shown that he will be an asset to the unit even if he comes with his history and baggage.

And it is this background and context that could make Atwater an ideal candidate as Torres’ next mentor in Season 10. Although he handled a case that became very personal to him, it was best to get Atwater’s support (whether he wanted to or not). Aguilar went on to explain the Torres / Atwater dynamic:

With Atwater, there is something in common in how we’ve grown up. She knows this life and is able to guide me in this direction of what will be. I think she has had the growing pains that Torres has. So they are the same. They are so different and just as beautiful. I had a lot of fun with Atwater in this episode. We really clicked and off the screen we were talking and then we thought, “Ok, this is that time!” For example, “Torres and Atwater had the moment that LaRoyce and I are living in the moment.” You know, eat and talk about life and share stories. So it was a very nice experience.

It appears that LaRoyce Hawkins was something of a mentor to Benjamin Levy Aguilar as he adapted to his regular role on the show. Chicago police, just like Atwater appeared on screen for Torres. The chemistry between the characters was already visible in the Torres-centric episode, which was also the first episode without Jesse Lee Soffer as a regular character. Will fans see more Torres and Atwater after their collaboration? The actor said:

Absolutely. Yes, a lot of Torres / Atwater action. As LaRoyce says, “OceanWater”. [laughs] Yes, there is definitely a lot in there, and I’m having a lot of fun sharing the screen with him.

LaRoyce Hawkins coined the term “OceanWater” for them, referencing Torres’ radio code “5021-Ocean” and his character’s name, so it seems fans have a lot to look forward to with his dynamic trailer. It should also be interesting to see if they become official partners.

A dice PSLong-standing partnerships have already ended in season 10, with Halstead leaving. the duo split up on the contrary professionally and personally. There’s an odd number of cops working for Voight in the Intelligence Unit, so only time will tell if the show will simply change pairings from episode to episode or create new post-Halstead collaborations.

Find out what awaits Torres and Atwater (and if we get any updates on Halstead) with new episodes of Chicago police Wednesdays at 10pm ET on NBC. Season 10 has “pretty little” – for quote showrunner Gwen Sigan – two new characters coming up and the rest of One Chicago also offers a lot of twists. Chicago Mediterranean Sara lose a character by the end of 2022, while Chicago fire I just found a way to keep Violet going. after Chief Hawkins’ death .
