Most movie buffs will surely know Robert Downey Jr., the man most famous for playing Marvel’s Tony Stark / Iron Man for over a decade. Of course, many movie fans probably also know his famous director father, Robert Downey Sr., died at age 85 last summer. (Soon after, Downey Jr. paid tribute to his father .) Before he died, the prolific actor and his son were producing an illustrious career as a documentary maker. Now, during his debut, the Marvel ex has talked about a time when he felt particularly attached to his late father.
Mr premiered at the Telluride Film Festival last Friday, and it was at the annual event that Robert Downey Jr. experienced the aforementioned moment. The actor explained dressing table that years ago his father was lifting a barrel of chemicals when he injured his back. (Downey Sr. worked at the Universal Exposition once.) As you can imagine, the injury caused the man great pain and Robert Downey Jr. says he heard something like that in the middle of the doc’s premiere of him. :
About 11 seconds before I left to come here, I shot myself in the back. So I’m in this weird empathy meditation for my dad’s lingering pain, and I’ll tell you: high-altitude sprains are much more pleasant.
Mr, directed by Chris Smith, focuses on the final years of Robert Downey Sr., who was making a final film due to his deteriorating health. For people , the documentary and Downey Sr.’s latest film were originally two concepts but, at the suggestion of Robert Downey Jr.’s wife, Susan, the two concepts were merged. So far, the film has received positive reviews. Vikram Murthi from IndieWire while acknowledging the film’s flaws, he considered it a solid tribute to the late underground director. Downey definitely didn’t miss the fact that he created a film about his father at the festival he once presented, and opened the circle of honor with Vanity Fair:
We love circles. Sometimes you have to force them to be circular in order to figure it out. This is a little more organic.
Father and son have certainly broken new ground in Hollywood. Robert Downey Jr. was embarking on major projects before he even started his time at amazing movies . His father, on the other hand, was known for his independent experimental films. His most famous work is undoubtedly putney shota satirical look at how the breed is managed in Hollywood.
While the young Downey shares some of his father’s qualities, such as his eccentric and spontaneous nature. Earlier this year, RDJ again disguised as an Easter bunny to celebrate the holiday. And months later Downey Jr. dyed his hair blue to celebrate your child’s victory in the minor league championship.
It seems that the spirit of Robert Downey Sr. is alive and well, and we have a feeling that the release of this documentary (which is on sale at the time of this writing) is cathartic for Jr. Even though his father is missing, he will always have the memories, the document and the occasional moments like Telluride to help maintain that bond.
