“Did royal scandals damage the country’s reputation?” commentators ask in the trailer for The crown season 5. The series criticized in recent days from all sides, attacks hard with a trailer that shows a monarchy abused and shaken by scandals, at the dawn of the 90s.
“awful year”
We see the Windsor fire, a significant element of this year 1992, which Queen Elizabeth will baptize as “Annus horribilis”, but also the separation of Carlos and Diana that is coming. A situation that “shakes the stability of the country”, according to Prime Minister John Major, played by Jonny Lee Miller.
We also glimpse this episode, which makes the protagonists of the time tremble, the alleged maneuvers of Prince Charles to push his mother to abdicate.
This trailer also gives the opportunity to discover the impressive performance of Elizabeth Debicki, who plays an increasingly abandoned Diana and who threatens, through her revelations about her marriage, the image of the British crown.
All the actors from the previous season have given way to another generation. Imelda Staunton, the Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter, now plays the queen. While Jonathan Pryce (the High Sparrow from Game of Thrones) lends his features to an aging Prince Philip, Dominic West portrays a much more handsome Prince Charles than the real thing.
The crown returns to Netflix on November 9.
