Spoilers ahead for those who haven’t seen it yet. the midnight club on Netflix, so be careful!
Although the success of Netflix horror series the midnight club is based on the works of genre writer Christopher Pike, co-creators Mike Flanagan and Leah Fong have certainly made some changes by adapting the 1994 novel (and others) for today’s viewers. The endings of their respective projects are noticeably different, with the book wrapped in an epilogue set in the future, as the TV show closes the some last second surprises which were not yet fully destined to be understood. The creative team has nearly obliterated the mystery ending entirely and couldn’t be happier to have strayed from this tenuous idea.
When 24 News Bulletin spoke to Mike Flanagan and his production partner at Intrepid Pictures, Trevor Macy, about the midnight clubthe The curse of the house on the hill Creator talked about the surprising ending , and how it was set as a springboard for a second season, in hopes that the show would garner a large enough audience to warrant a renewal. But because he personally resents projects that end on unsolved cliffhangers, the team went ahead and edited the finale without Georgina’s big final scene, in case they wanted to release it. . Here’s how the duo put it:
- Mike Flagan: Having done nothing but limit myself for so long, I was really reluctant to end it, why what if we didn’t get caught? But we’re rolling the dice, so we’ll see how it goes.
- Trevor Macy: Yes, we have had a heated debate on that, actually. Very recently.
- Mike Flagan: We cut a version of the show a month ago without it. In case. It was like I didn’t want to end up on a cliffhanger and not respond. And who knows? We won’t know what they want to do for a month. But yeah, if they don’t want to do it again, we’ll screw it up like crazy and put it all online.
Don’t get me wrong, I like happy endings when they’re earned, and the midnight clubThe central theme of adolescents living in hospices absolutely deserves a sunny and full of hugs conclusion. So in that sense, I can understand why she would make sense to cut Georgina to reveal her elegant bald head and hourglass tattoo, as well as Freelans’ newspaper clipping. But as a viewer who loves Mike Flanagan’s shows and movies, I honestly don’t know if I would have been so excited after seeing it if it ended a minute or two earlier.
I feel like for this to work, the editors would have to come back to the show and corrupt some of the scariest moments. While we don’t know ALL the facts yet, the cliffhanger at least confirms that many of the details that emerged during the season are meant to be explored further, rather than just scattered all over the place for the sake of discussion. fright. Considering the series premiere featured a record of over 20 scary jumps, particularly due to the director’s distaste for them, I can’t really imagine a world in which dance club was released without the capper attached to Paragon. And luckily, I don’t have to.
Mike Flanagan said he would freely post all (or at least most) of the answers and secrets of the midnight club in case Netflix chooses not to renew it for season 2. So no one has to worry about this show following in Ryan Murphy’s shaky footsteps. the policeman what caused the anger among the spectators with their own end.
The first season of the midnight club it can be transmitted in full with a netflix subscription with many major projects still to be launched on the streaming service (opens in a new tab).
