Russell Wilson has been in the news quite often this NFL season following his swap from the Seattle Seahawks to the Denver Broncos. But not all of the reasons were good (something he has in common with former Super Bowl opponent Tom Brady ). The quarterback is back in the spotlight thanks to his recent collaboration with Subway, which spawned a commercial that fans have called silly. Now Wilson’s sandwich is no longer on the fast food chain menu and people are asking: Is it because of the Wilson commercial?
The NFL quarterback unveiled his character “DangeRuss” as part of the promotion for his subway menu called “Dangerwich”. The sandwich consists of peppers, salami, black forest ham, provolone and bacon on Italian herbs and cheese bread. It is also topped with lettuce, green peppers, tomatoes, banana peppers and finished with yellow mustard and mayonnaise. Seems like a great combination that fans shouldn’t complain about right now, after seeing Wilson’s announcements, people have a lot to say. Check out one of these below, which Wilson shared on his Twitter account:
Live dangerously. Eat banana peppers from a submarine. 😎 https://t.co/0XdVM3nXgi #SubwayVault pic.twitter.com/4J96r3rWuPMay 4, 2022
This ad campaign was launched in May and now that football season is underway, some people are probably looking to enjoy their Dangerwich while watching Russell Wilson. Unfortunately, like the New York post noticed, this sandwich is no longer available on the subway menu. A rep commented that the delicacy was simply removed to make room for more articles, but fans can’t help but wonder if Wilson’s clunky ads were a factor. Currently, there are a lot of memes out there that make fun of advertisements. Ads are even claimed to actively promote business for substore competitors:

While the item was removed from the menu in August, a Metro rep confirmed that the food will be back “soon”. One wonders if that will ever happen, given the brutal memes circulating about Russell Wilson and his trademark. Super Bowl Winner e Once Surroundings Star he struggled to get in shape in his inaugural season with the Broncos and didn’t look much like himself in 2022 while playing. Some fans see this and wonder if the restaurant franchise would like to find another face for their franchise, unlike the Broncos:

It should also be noted that NFL viewers used these ads to mock the Broncos franchise and tweaked them to make the quarterback goofy. Take this meme, for example, which was edited to be used by fans when the Broncos lose, or take an “L”:

Non-NFL fans may not realize that, in general, Russell Wilson has been criticized by fans in the past for being clumsy. Before the NFL season began, he became a meme after a video of his shooting for the stadium jumbotron went viral. Since then, “Broncos Country, Let’s Ride” has been edited and remixed and remains a widely used meme this season:

With Dangerwich returning to Subway, it will be interesting to see if the increased attention surrounding the ads translates into decent sales. After all, the sandwich itself looks mouthwatering, and the clumsiness of the advertisement only makes it more popular. (clandestine still making tuna sandwiches after being trolled by Jessica Simpson , after all.) Could the demand for the sub reach the popularity levels of McDonald’s Szechaun sauce because of the NFL player associated with it? If so, it could be a flagship of the Denver Broncos cap and maybe something to encourage fans to relax with him for a bit. (And if it doesn’t work, we can talk about more positive things, like Wilson’s lovely dog .
