Black Panther: Wakanda forever It hasn’t been out in theaters for weeks. Based on the trailer, the hit sequel is expected to be both light and dark for Marvel fans. With the sequel around the corner, Coogler revealed what was planned for the film before Boseman’s death.
Having to change his view of black Panther The sequel prompted Coogler to almost give up on his film career. The director has already said that shooting without the late actor would have been the hardest thing for him professionally. Losing his main man and friend was sad for him on many levels. The script we wrote before Chadwick’s death was very rooted in T’Challa’s perspective. It was a huge film, but at the same time a character study that delved into his psyche and his situation.
It seems that fans would have found out more about T’Challa after opening Wakanda to the world. Diving deeper into the man would have been a great way to connect viewers more with the King of Wakanda. It would have been nice to see how Coogler put the microscope on the character as he fully immersed himself in the MCU.
Coogler recalled his co-writer Ryan Cole restructuring the sequel to “honor the truth” that cast and crew felt about the Oscar-nominated actor’s death. The director said the revised script honors Boseman’s memory while advancing “the story.” After the story was completed, Coogler and the company began filming the sequel. But the circumstances were different than in the first film, as the COVID-19 protocols and Boseman’s death meant the cast and crew spent less downtime together. Coping with so much adversity turned the film set into a therapy session for returning actors and directors. In his words:
Art can be therapeutic, but the therapeutic process can be painful, sometimes torturous. But sometimes also relaxing and rewarding. It was all of these things. Sharing it with the actors, who are also in mourning, gave me a lot of grace.
Giving himself and the cast the grace allowed everyone to come to terms with the late MCU star’s absence from the set. The environment has become a safe place for the cast and crew to pour their grief into creating incredible work. While some Marvel fans were pushing for the redesign of T’Challa, it was too early for those who worked and knew Chadwick Boseman personally. Of course, the cast agreed with Marvel’s decision not to rebroadcast with co-star Winston Duke expressing his excitement over the decision. Lupita Nyong’o said she couldn’t see another actor as King of Wakanda despite online petitions asking for it. So the cast disagreed with someone replacing Boseman.
See T’Challa’s story below ending of the Avengers It would have been an interesting examination of the character. Unfortunately, fans won’t understand this story … for the time being. In addition to the return of cast members like Duke and Nyong’o and Ryan Coogler behind the camera, the sequel introduces Marvel characters like Riri Williams and Namor to the MCU. Viewers will be able to see who will take on the role of Black Panther when Black Panther: Wakanda forever will be released in theaters on November 11th.
