Eurovision 2024: how to watch the first semi-final

The first round of qualification for Eurovision 2024 will take place this Tuesday, May 7. Where to watch the program and will it be possible to vote?

The 2024 edition of Eurovision officially begins this Tuesday, May 7. Representatives from 15 of the 37 participating countries will take the stage this afternoon at the Malmö Arena in Malmö (Sweden) to play the first semi-final. Ten of them will get their tickets for Saturday’s grand finale… and French spectators will be able to attend the show.

Several broadcast channels are available for French Eurofans. Like last year, this first semi-final will be broadcast live on France 4 (TNT channel 14) starting at 9 p.m. The evening will be commented by the drag queen Nicky Doll, presenter of Endurance race France.

This first evening of the semi-finals will also be broadcast live on the Eurovision YouTube channel. Competition fans around the world can follow along below.

Who will perform?

The 15 countries competing tonight are Cyprus, Serbia, Lithuania, Ireland, Ukraine, Poland, Croatia, Iceland, Slovenia, Finland, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Australia, Portugal and Luxembourg.

The six countries automatically qualified for the final (the Big Five, which includes France, and the host country, this year Sweden) will also perform in the semi-finals; three during the first (Germany, Sweden and the United Kingdom) and three during the second (France, Italy and Spain).

Why won’t you be able to vote?

As is tradition, voters from participating countries will only be able to vote during the semi-final in which their representative acts. And those prequalified are subject to the same voting rule. Thus, the French public will not be able to vote this Tuesday, but will make their voice heard during the second afternoon, Thursday, May 9.

France is represented this year by the singer Slimane, with his title My love. The 34-year-old artist has secured a sustained campaign throughout Europe, performing in England and Spain, each time adapting his lyrics to sing some verses in the languages of Shakespeare and Cervantes. And it has surely worked for him: the bettors predict him, for the moment, a sixth place.
