“Fuck Eurovision.” Joost Klein still has not assimilated her exclusion from the May 11 final of the great European song contest.
The Dutch candidate expressed his anger towards the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which organizes the contest, during a concert on Sunday, May 26, in Vancouver, Canada.
“Fuck Eurovision,” he said during this event, in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by a Dutch journalist. “Fuck the EBU (the English name of the EBU, editor’s note),” the audience responded in unison.
A “threatening movement”
Joost Klein was disqualified from the Eurovision final, for the first time in the contest’s history, for making a “threatening movement” toward a camera operator while heading to the locker room during the semi-final on Thursday, May 9.
The singer had “indicated on several occasions that he did not want to be filmed. This was not respected,” stated Dutch broadcaster Avrotros, judging the sanction “disproportionate.”
“This caused Joost to make a threatening movement towards the cameraman. “Joost did not touch the cameraman,” Avrotros also insisted in a press release.
A trial in June?
The decision to exclude Joost Klein was made after Swedish police opened an investigation into a complaint made by a member of the production team. The investigation is now complete.
A trial will be held in early June. However, this could be postponed because Joost Klein has requested the hearing of new witnesses to clarify this matter, as Fredrik Jönsson, prosecutor at the Malmö public prosecutor’s office, revealed to the Dutch channel NOS on Monday.
