‘I can’t see anything anymore’: Judi Dench retires due to blindness

British actress Judi Dench spoke to the British press about her decision to no longer act in films due to her blindness.

Judi Dench, winner of the Oscar for best supporting actress for Shakespeare in love in 1999 and played as M in the franchise for over twenty years. James BondHe indicated that he had retired.

The 89-year-old actress revealed in The Guardian that she made this decision due to her blindness. Asked by the British newspaper about these future projects, she responded negatively: “No, no, I don’t see anything anymore!”

Spokespeople for the actress told the publication that they had no further comment. Judi Dench only clarified that she will speak at public events about her new book Shakespeare: The Man Who Pays the Rent.

“Our book has just been published, we are going to the Cheltenham Literature Festival and then we will do three shows with (British writer) Gyles Brandreth,” he added.

“It’s atrocious”

Judi Dench, who battles macular degeneration, has spoken about her blindness for years. “I don’t want to retire. I’m not doing much right now because I don’t see anything,” he said in 2022.

“I have a photographic memory, so when someone tells me my line it doesn’t work,” he added. Last year, she said in the Sunday Mirror columns:

“I can’t see anything on set anymore. And I can’t read anymore. We have to find a way to deal with this. It’s difficult when you have an important role. I haven’t found a solution yet.”

Judi Dench appeared briefly in the 2022 film. Spirited: The Spirit of Christmas, broadcast on Prime Video. She was also nominated for an Oscar in 2021 for her role in belfast by Kenneth Branagh.
