Meryl Streep, star of three Oscar awards, will be the reciter of a musical creation by Rufus Wainwright, on June 14 on Radio France in Paris, the latter announced on Monday.
This show, dream requiem, will be created in the Radio France Auditorium, with the Radio France Choir, the Maîtrise de Radio France and the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra. This show will be broadcast on June 14 at 8 p.m. live on France Musique and Arte Concert.
The 74-year-old American actress, who recently received the honorary Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, will recite the poem. The darkness Byron’s (“Darkness”) (1816).
“Like everyone, I have admired Meryl Streep since I saw her first movie. “I have had the pleasure of knowing her personally for several years,” Rufus Wainwright writes in a press release.
“Get her involved in the global creation of dream requiem “It is an honor beyond anything I could have hoped for,” continues the 50-year-old American-Canadian musician.
“Two dramatic experiences”
dream requiem was born from “two dramatic experiences that took place in 2020: the Covid 19 pandemic and the California fires,” the press release indicates.
HE Requiem by Verdi is another inspiration from Rufus Wainwright, who already used opera in his pop music and wrote two operas, prima donna AND Hadrian.
This concert will also be the subject of a recording that Warner Classics/Erato should release in autumn 2024.
Rufus Wainwright, outside of his solo career, has already collaborated with stars such as Elton John, Miley Cyrus, David Byrne, Boy George, Joni Mitchell, the Pet Shop Boys, Paul Simon and Sting. It was also he who brought actress Catherine Deneuve on stage, in March 2022, to perform with him. God is a Havana smoker.
In December 2022, Brazilian music star Gilberto Gil created an opera song at the Radio France Auditorium, blue love.
