Shonda Rhimes reflects on the relaunch of private practice following Kate Walsh’s return to Grey’s Anatomy

Kate Walsh was a fan favorite as Addison Montgomery Grey’s Anatomy from the shocking season 1 reveals that Meredith’s boyfriend, McDreamy himself, was actually still married. Walsh was even cast to direct her spin-off.private practicewho aired on ABC for six seasons and even now, seven years later Derek Shepherd was murdered and how Ellen Pompeo is about to leave “Addison Montgomery continues to show up in the operating rooms of the Gray Sloan Memorial. Plus, if Shonda Rhimes were up to her, she could further expand the story of the world-class neonatal surgeon in a private practice Renaissance.

the creator of Grey’s Anatomy Yes private practice (and many other series) appeared in hello america , where he was asked which of his completed series he would like to review. Shonda Rhimes replied:

In fact, I feel like we haven’t finished telling our stories in private practice. We had so many other stories to tell. … I felt like we had a lot more to say with these characters and a lot more to do, and it also felt like a show that had endless possibilities, where you learn and see that things happen at the same time medically. .

Grey’s Anatomy he certainly drew inspiration from real-world events to fuel his stories, including The approach of the pandemic season 17 and the revocation by the Supreme Court of roe deer v. Wade in the current season . private practice apparently it had the same deep well to draw from, as Shonda Rhimes pointed out.

if one private practice If the revival were to happen, now certainly seems like a good time to do so, as Kate Walsh has kept her character’s story alive. Grey’s Anatomy. Addison Montgomery returned to Seattle in “Let’s Talk About Sex”, episode 3 of Grey’s Anatomyfrom season 19, after making several appearances in season 18.

The character didn’t reveal much about his life in Los Angeles, but he did tell his former sister-in-law Amelia Shepherd (who starred in private practice before becoming a Grey regular) who went through a dark period during the pandemic, to the point where she said she “really hates” her husband Jake (played in the spin-off by Benjamin Bratt) and their son Henry. I certainly wouldn’t mind what the rest of the cast and characters have been up to since the show ended in 2013.

Characters from the Los Angeles-based spinoff have been played by big hitters including Audra McDonald, Taye Diggs, Paul Adelstein, KaDee Strickland, Chris Lowell, and others. Strickland, Adelstein and Griffin Gluck reunite in the second season of Freeform Anthology cruel summerwho recently completed shots .

Shonda Rhimes didn’t seem like there were actually plans to revive the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off, but anything seems possible these days. For now, though, you’ll just have to catch Addison and Amelia Grey’s Anatomy, airing at 9 p.m. ET Thursday on ABC.
