ghosts guarantees it comedy on CBS It’s still at least a little creepy and the show embraces the spirit of the season with its second Halloween episode. While last year’s first Halloween episode involved Thor and a burning gazebo, ghosts This time around, the pressure on Hetty will increase and, according to co-showrunner Joe Wiseman, it will become “embarrassing” for the former hostess. And because she is ghostsIt’s safe to say that what bothers her will be fun for the fans!
The troubles will begin when Sam and Jay hold a séance at their Halloween party, trying to summon a spirit to liven up the night. Co-showrunner Joe Wiseman reveals that “the session really works and call someone” and the ghosts The team needed to figure out who they could bring back to complicate Hetty’s afterlife. Wiseman spoke to Gossipify about the Halloween episode and explained how they came to the decision:
It quickly became like, “Okay, now it should be someone who has a connection to one of our ghosts, so it’s probably someone who has a connection to the house.” It was Hetty’s house, so it probably has the deepest connection with the house. So we started asking questions like, “Who could we have seen in the past? In last year’s episode we established the maid, who has been mentioned multiple times as someone her husband Elias was having an affair with, so we figured she would be it was very embarrassing for Hetty if she had to face this suddenly, someone she hated from her past.
Yes, Woodstone’s Halloween filming will involve summoning Molly, the maid who was having an affair with Hetty’s husband when they were still alive. While Hetty and Elias weren’t exactly romantically involved, that doesn’t mean she won’t hate Molly from beyond the grave! Maybe Molly should hope she doesn’t get sent to hell like Elias was.
The episode will clearly be difficult for Hetty, but what about the rest of the ghosts? Will they be a full part of Team Hetty or will they enjoy watching the drama unfold in front of them? When I asked Joe Wiseman if the other spirits would enjoy themselves as spectators, the co-showrunner shared:
With confidence! Ghosts are bored, they have nothing to do. Now that Sam is here they still have a little to do, at least they can ask for TV shows and movies, but many ghosts like to watch dramas. Eventually, they also care about each other and want to make sure things work out, but without a doubt it’s a very exciting thing for ghosts to do. Hetty is not very enthusiastic, but all the other ghosts take advantage of it.
Who needs a movie when a séance revives the ghost of a woman who had an affair with a friend’s husband? The ghosts upstairs in Woodstone usually support each other (and stick together at will ghosts of cholera to stay in the basement ), but that doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy watching the drama as it unfolds. It’s not every day that someone new comes into the house who can actually see and hear you, so maybe this works in Molly’s favor.
All in all, the episode, aptly named “Halloween 2: Ghost of Hetty’s Past”, looks like it’s going in completely different directions from last season’s Halloween adventure. Joe Wiseman stepped in to do something different this time:
We’re a supernatural sitcom, and since it’s Halloween, we always feel like there’s some pressure to extend a Halloween episode a bit. So we started to collect ideas, like what are some supernatural ghosts or tropes that we haven’t done yet that we could explore? The idea of a session had come up in the room several times on other occasions, and we thought maybe Halloween would be the time to do it. We started thinking about how the session could go, how it would work and what would happen. But yeah, we wanted to make the Halloween episode scarier.
Depending on whether Molly’s arrival (and Hetty’s reaction) causes problems for Sam and Jay, the married couple may not be in a rush to have more sessions in the future. Season 2 has already been a pretty wild ride for them, with everything from taking a bad stand to save a tree to Sam and the ghosts having to save Jay from a cult to Jay’s fleeting hopes that he could also see spirits after your injury. If the session is a disaster, Hetty may not have to worry about someone else being carried over from her past.
Tune in to CBS on Thursday, October 27 at 8:30 PM ET to see the second annual Halloween episode of ghosts (opens in a new tab). If you want to revisit Thor and the Burning Gazebo from Halloween season one, you can stream it with a Paramount + subscription . The show is still going strong and probably very confident to join list of shows ending this season and it also has a Christmas episode coming up, so keep making room for ghosts in your TV program 2022 !
