Michael Jordan is arguably one of the greatest athletes of all time and perhaps one of the reasons is his competitive nature. Those who have seen him play or tuned in to ESPN The Last Dance (Transmissible with a netflix subscription ) knows how “personally” he takes things on the pitch. However, he is also an avid golfer, playing against several NBA veterans. JR Smith had the pleasure of hitting some balls with His Airness of him, and apparently the Hall of Famer “smoked” him and made some trashy speeches.
The thought of playing Michael Jordan in any kind of sport is both exciting and incredibly daunting. However, JR Smith was apparently more than willing to take on the iconic basketball player. While discussing his golf game with his childhood hero him, Smith explained that the two got to the point of betting on the game, in which he was apparently crushed by the former Chicago Bull. But the icing on the cake was Jordan’s A +, which humorously revolved around Smith’s 16-year tenure in the NBA:
he smoked me, he threw that discreet punch at me. So we bet well and I doubled one of my bets. She said, ‘Okay, what’s the game?’ I’m like, ‘Let’s play a Nassau. I said, ‘Wow, $ 100, not $ 1,000.’ He said: ‘I know what you meant … You had a good race, not a great race. What can I say?’ it was great for me
I’d say that joke is more lethal than any dagger MJ has ever thrown in a fourth quarter. However, this didn’t seem to bother JR Smith at all. In the same interview with complex sports the former Cleveland Cavalier explained that he felt a childish joy playing alongside the Air Jordan:
It was one of the most childish feelings I had as an adult. I’m Mike, brother. I couldn’t help but look at it like, ‘Hey, he has Jordans.
There is no greater feeling than meeting your heroes, even if they beat you and come running while you play golf. But nonsense aside, I’d probably also be pretty dazzled if I played golf an NBA goat like Michael Jordan .
Listening to Michael Jordan’s wild comments, it’s honestly hard not to think about his (one-sided) feud with former teammate Scottie Pippen. Pippen doesn’t mince words. talk about his contempt for The Last Dance (which provoked a violent reaction multiplayer) and the nature of his relationship with Jordan. In one case, Pippen’s shadow even drew a response from the veteran NBA coach. Stan Van Gundy. Coincidentally, Pippen even claimed he can beat Jordan in golf Although the founder of Jordan Brand never replied to his colleague’s comments, I think he probably could have jotted down a few words.
But it seems the six-time NBA champion is content only with golfing outings with other pro basketball veterans. I’m curious if JR Smith will accept some sort of rematch, and if he does, I will pray that his wallet and his ego don’t suffer too much.
