cobra-kai has found a way to incorporate almost all of the major stars of the Karate Kid franchise and give its characters a chance to grow. From end of season 5 we had every great evil Daniel LaRusso has taken over, but there’s still one glaring omission from the guest star lineup that fans can’t wait to see: Hilary Swank. The next karate guy the star said it still is Waiting for your call being in the Netflix series and Ralph Macchio has some ideas about it.
Gossipify spoke to Ralph Macchio about his latest book Grow Up: The Karate Kid and me (opens in a new tab)which is filled with the actor’s personal stories about his work The child of karate Yes cobra-kai. Macchio also talks about other projects in which he was not involved so much The next karate guy, so now seemed like a good time to ask if he’d seen Hilary Swank’s comments about not being called out and if he’d like to see her introduce herself. He shared:
I know, I read it! I think, listen, most of this is based on Jon (Hurwitz), Josh (Heald) and Hayden (Schlossberg), who are creating the show and the writing team. And we’re still very cooperative and we’re still talking about things. They are great listeners which is why, as I said, they care and care about me. So I think that’s why it all works. I think there is definitely room in the Miyagiverse.
Ralph Macchio was keen to specify that if he is one of the protagonists of cobra-kaiHaving Hilary Swank appear on the show as Julie Pierce isn’t up to him. It falls on the shoulders of the co-showrunners, who once told Gossipify they had discussed the plans in case Swank resumes his role. Obviously, these conversations didn’t lead to a phone call of any kind.
Hilary Swank does not appear cobra-kai This doesn’t sound like an affront to the actress or her contribution to the Miyagiverse, in case someone, upon hearing it, thinks they haven’t gotten a call to join. Ralph Macchio continued her thoughts on Julie Pierce’s meeting with Daniel LaRusso and concluded with her honest thoughts about her state of affairs by inviting her:
Imagine that Julie Pierce and Daniel LaRusso knew each other even though we don’t have those scenes and I’m not part of that specific movie. These guys amaze me all the time with what they are capable of creating and the fact that they just don’t create it for fan service. They really create stories that work and improve the characters. And then the fact that it’s also a fan service is why I think it’s going full steam. So there is my long answer to the short question that I don’t really know, but hopefully if there is an opportunity it will be seized.
Ralph Macchio cannot give guarantees, but it seems he would expect cobra-kai to offer Hilary Swank a chance to return if the story demands it and the timing works. That said, it’s unclear if times will resolve anytime soon, as she Swank recently announced she’s expecting twins. I guess she may not be up to par with classic intense fight scenes! Of course, we are still waiting for the official word that season 6 is happening but hopefully, and a future appearance of Swank as Julie Pierce, will be confirmed in the coming months.
