Miss Universe: Miss Nigeria will leave South Africa, after controversy over her nationality

The nationality of Chidimma Adetshina, second in the Miss Universe contest, is generating controversy in South Africa. The young woman, born in Soweto to a Nigerian father, announces that she is going to leave the country.

Chidimma Adetshina, Miss Nigeria who came second in the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico last Saturday, announced that she would be leaving South Africa.

After a xenophobic controversy surrounding her Nigerian origins, the young woman who originally competed for South Africa, finally participated in Miss Universe under the colors of Nigeria.

Chidimma Adetshina, whose father is Nigerian and whose mother is accused by South African authorities of impersonating a South African, has announced that she will leave the country.

“I have already decided to settle in Nigeria,” he said. “I was at my lowest point.”

Nigeria then offered her to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria. The young woman warmly thanked Nigeria, after her time at Miss Universe.

“Nigeria, thank you is not enough for all the support you have given me. “You lifted me up when I was at my lowest,” she posted on Instagram.

“I have no animosity towards South Africa,” said Chidimma Adetshina, “because at the end of the day, it is still a place I consider home, even if it is painful to say so.

Second in the Miss Universe pageant behind Denmark’s Victoria Kjær Theilvig, Chidimma Adetshina was also named Miss Universe Africa and Oceania on November 18.
