Liz Hatton, a 17-year-old teenager who suffered from a rare and incurable cancer, and whose fate had touched Kate Middleton, died Wednesday morning, her family announced on social media.
The young woman, passionate about photography and who had documented her fight against the disease in photographs, met the Princess of Wales last October during one of her first royal engagements since the end of chemotherapy.
The meeting between the two women, very emotional, was welcomed at the time by the royal family, who greatly admired the teenager’s fight. “It was a pleasure meeting Liz today in Windsor,” Kate Middleton said in X.
“(She is) a talented young photographer whose creativity and strength inspire us,” wrote the Princess of Wales, who revealed earlier this year that she was suffering from cancer. “Thank you for sharing your photos and your story with us.”
Very aggressive cancer
Liz Hatton suffered from desmoplastic small cell tumour, a rare form of cancer, which she was diagnosed with in January in her ovaries and liver. This very aggressive and incurable cancer condemned her in the short term.
“Until her last breath, she remained determined. Even yesterday she was still planning things. We are so proud of the kindness, empathy and courage she showed over these last few months,” her parents wrote in X.
“Not only was she an incredible photographer, she was the best person in the world, a wonderful daughter and sister. No one fought harder to live than her,” they added.
Paying a final tribute to him, his family asked for donations to help research into desmoplastic small cell tumors, remembering that there are still no effective treatments against this disease.
