Sylvester Stallone will not play Rocky Balboa in Creed IIIthird part of the spin-off of the franchise rocky in theaters in March 2023. An absence that he regrets, as he confided this week to the hollywood reporter.
“It is an unfortunate situation, because I know what we could have done. The film took a quite different direction than I would have liked to give it, ”begins the actor, before adding:
“It’s a different philosophy. Irwin Winkler [le producteur historique de la saga, NDLR] and Michael B. Jordan do not have the same philosophy as me. I wish them success, but I am sentimental”, continues the actor. “I like my heroes to be evil, but I don’t like them to go to the dark side. I think people are tired of the dark.”
Creed IIIDirected by Michael B. Jordan, it will tell the confrontation between Adonis, the son of Apollo Creed, Rocky’s rival, and his childhood friend, a certain Damian, a boxing prodigy who has returned to annihilate him in the ring.
“A new world opens up for the public”
Sylvester Stallone’s statement shocked fans a bit rocky. In November 2018, on the occasion of the launch of Creed IIhad announced that he had finished with his character, to make way for the younger generation embodied by Michael B. Jordan.
“Today when I resign and my story has been told, a new world opens up for the public with this generation,” the actor explained in a message posted on Instagram.
“It has been a great privilege for me to be able to create and play this important character. Although it breaks my heart, everything has an end. […] Rocky will never die because he lives in you,” he added in this video.

Since then, Stallone had announced in 2021 to prepare a series on Rocky’s youth. “Imagine a time machine that will transport you to the origins of rocky. A cinematic world with characters loved by audiences for decades,” the actor-director wrote on Instagram.
Stallone also released a new edition of rocky IVa new version of the movie, without Paulie’s robot, his trainer. In 2019 he also expressed the desire to produce a tenth part of the saga, where Rocky would have become friend with a young street boxer living illegally in the United States.
But the project did not see the light of day. Since then, Stallone has been fighting producer Irwin Winkler to reclaim the rights to the franchise. rockyof which he is the creator: “It is a painful subject that eats away at my soul, because I want to leave a trace of Rocky for my children…”
