British actor Leslie Phillips, known to the Anglo-Saxon public for having been the voice of the magic sorting hat in the saga Harry Potterdied at the age of 98, British media report, including Sun.
He died “peacefully in his sleep,” according to his agent. “I have lost a wonderful husband and the public has lost a great showman,” said his wife Zara, 63. “He was a national treasure.”
The comedian, who began his career in the 1950s, lent his voice to the magical hat deciding the fate of the Hogwarts students in wizard school (2001), the chamber of secrets (2002) and the deathly hallows (2011).

Before Harry PotterLeslie Philips had a pretty full career. He started in Under the smallest canopy in the worldparody of Under the world’s largest canopy with Peter Sellers. She later acted with Gene Kelly in the girls (1957).
In 1962, Leslie Philips appears on the poster of the the longest day. We find it two decades later in out of africa (1985) by Sidney Pollack and The Sun’s empire (1987) by Steven Spielberg.
More recently, Leslie Philips starred in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) with Angelina Jolie, million (2004) by Danny Boyle and Call me Kubrick t(2005), a film about an impostor who posed as the famous director.
