When baby Yoda meets the susuwatari. After several days of teasing, the LucasFilm studios (owned by Disney) and Ghibli reveal the fruit of their collaboration. It is a short film, broadcast on the Disney+ platform on November 12, and starring the emblematic character of the series the mandalorianGrogu, the baby yoda.
This short film, titled Zen: Grogu and the Susuwatari and directed by Katsuya Kondo (who worked on aya and the witch, memories of marnie either the wind rises) celebrates three years of the series and platform. Ludwig Göransson, composer of the music of the mandaloriansigns the music for this short film.
The image posted by Disney on Twitter this Saturday shows baby Yoda levitating above his susuwatari head (called “noiraudes” in French and “dust bunnies” in English), jumping small balls of black fur, which we found in my neighbor totoro and in made disappear.
Yoda and Miyazaki
Ghibli had planted doubt in the minds of fans, posting a tweet first on Thursday associating Lucasfilm logos and Ghibli’s iconic Totoro, then on Friday, a figure of baby Yoda and Hayao Miyazaki, blurred in the background.
The master of Japanese animation, who created the studio in 1985 together with Isao Takahata, has announced his retirement on several occasions, without really being able to stick to it. He is currently working on a film project titled ¿Cómo vivas?, which will be released in 2023.
Lucasfilm has already collaborated with Japanese animation studios in the past, for the creation of its anthology series. Star Wars: Visions, which will air in 2021 on Disney+. Kamikaze Douga Studios (batman ninja), Gene Study (golden kamui), Colorful Study (burn the witch), Trigger(kill kill), Kinema Citrus (made in abyss), Saru Science (crybaby devil man) and GI production (ghost in the shell) each directed an episode set in the universe imagined by George Lucas.
Ghibli has just opened a theme park inspired by the studio’s animated films.
